Audacious boxer Jared “Mr Hollywood” Silverman has thrown down the gauntlet at South African welterweight champion Thulani “Evolution” Mbenge for a mother-ofall local showdown.

“I think this is the type of match-up that will bring down any boxing venue in terms of attendance because one thing is guaranteed ... and that is war,” said Silverman yesterday. “Thulani is the best welterweight boxer in South Africa, and that is why I want to fight him.”

Mbenge, from Mdantsane in Eastern Cape, boasts 10 knockouts in 12 wins. He registered the first defence of his SA title against Mziwoxolo Ndwayana last weekend.

Said Silverman: “I have always wanted to fight best guys. I have never been kept under cotton wool from when I was still trained by Nick Durandt.”

Silverman is now trained by Gert Strydom. “I will bring blood and guts. You will have two boys in there coming to fight. What more do you want?” asked Silverman, who is fresh from a fourth-round stoppage win of Zenzele Ntanzi.

“I will take Thulani to the deep waters and make him drown. I want to see if he’s got the heart,” he said.

Attempts to get a comment from Mbenge yesterday drew a blank.
