Davids to ring in changes

Player fatigue forces United coach’s hand

Sowetan - - Sport - By Sihle Ndebele

If Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is to be believed, the Team of Choice will make up to nine changes from the team that played AmaZulu on Tuesday when they welcome Orlando Pirates tomorrow at Harry Gwala Stadium (8pm).

Due to their involvement in the MTN8, where they were eventually knocked out by SuperSport United in the semifinals, Maritzburg have had a congested programme.

To avoid fatigue, Davids feels it will be important to rest most of his players who did duty against Usuthu.

“We will probably make eight or even nine changes against Pirates to refresh the squad. We had three games in six days before [the recent] Fifa break], and now we have three games in six days again.

“We cannot play with the same team every week, we have to freshen things up,” said Davids after their 1-1 draw against AmaZulu.

Davids also admitted that he was still hopeful they will strike a deal with Sundowns over Kwanda Mngonyama, who was on loan at the KZN side last season, but has since returned to the Brazilians.
