Mtha­lane on track for IBF ti­tle elim­i­na­tor

In­ter­na­tional belt paves way for star

Pro­moter Tshele Kometsi says he will start ne­go­ti­at­ing with the IBF for newly crowned IBF in­ter­na­tional fly­weight cham­pion Moruti “Baby Face” Mtha­lane to fight for the ac­tual IBF ti­tle elim­i­na­tor.

Mtha­lane stopped Ardin Diale of the Philip­pines in two rounds for the va­cant in­ter­na­tional ti­tle in the main bout of Kometsi’s bill at Mma­batho Con­ven­tion Cen­tre on Fri­day. Ex­pec­ta­tions are that Mtha­lane – who was is rated No 9 – will be given a top-five spot.

“I will be talk­ing to both IBF pres­i­dent Dar­ryl Peo­ples and Cham­pi­onship Com­mit­tee chair­man Lind­sey Tucker re­gard­ing Mtha­lane’s fu­ture,” said Kometsi yes­ter­day. “If all goes well, Moruti should be in­volved in a ti­tle elim­i­na­tion bout early next year and get back to the con­tention to chal­lenge cham­pion Don­nie Ni­etes.”

Koos Sibiya dug deep in his ar­se­nal to even­tu­ally over­come Malaw­ian Crispin Mol­liat in a 10rounder, while Ron­ald Malindi stopped Lihle Gingx­ana in the third round.

Michael Mokoena stopped Gift Bholo in the 10th round of their im­pres­sive bout.

At Ngoako Ra­matl­hodi Sports Com­plex in Seshego, Polok­wane, the ca­reer of ill-pre­pared Tsiko “Cruel Ju­nior” Mulovhedzi took a nose dive when he lost the IBF in­ter­con­ti­nen­tal wel­ter­weight belt to Hun­gar­ian Las­zlo Toth on points over 12 rounds.

Thomp­son Mok­wana re­tained his SA light­weight belt on points against Prince Dlomo.

Ac­tion be­gan on Thurs­day night at Ferdi Meyer Hall in Welkom, Free State, where Bukiwe “Ana­conda” Non­ina re­tained her WBF ban­tamweight belt on points against Mat­shidiso Moke­bisi.

Pro­moter An­dre Thysse said Non­ina could de­fend against highly rated Aus­tralian Shan­non O’Con­nell in De­cem­ber.

Sihle “The Sting” Jel­wane was crowned the new Free State fly­weight cham­pion after knock­ing out de­fend­ing champ Gift Pi­lane in the third round, while Nkopane Mokoena knocked Tham­sanqa Cele out in the sec­ond round.

Doc­tor Nt­sele stopped Cebo Ngema in the sixth round of the tour­na­ment that was staged by Sky­lon Pro­mo­tion of Prom­ise “Iron Lady” Moyo.
