STEVEN van Zandt, former guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, said this week that their song Sun City “literally brought down the South African government”. After the song, “everybody became more political”, he told The Guardian. So, there you have it: it wasn’t the heroes of the struggle that ended apartheid, but a couple of Americans with guitars.
