SUNBORN LONDON
If you’ve ever dreamed of swanning around on your own floating gin palace but don’t have the necessary millions — in pounds — to support such a lifestyle, maybe the Sunborn London can help scratch that itch.
This is a 130m superyacht moored permanently in the Royal Victoria Dock in London as a luxury floating hotel. As befits its bulk, the five-storey hotel with its gleaming white sides and twinkling lights at night is pretty much the sexiest thing in the area, including the nearby glitzy towers. It has 136 cabins, a spa, bar with great views of Canary Wharf and a finedining restaurant called Land’s End, which promises the best of British cuisine “with Asian and Mediterranean influences”.
Rates are currently £155 (R2 580) or £194 (R3 230) with dinner — not bad for luxury accommodation in London. And it’s a lot cheaper than being an actual yacht owner, which has been described as throwing pots of money into a vast, gurgling hole in the sea or — even better — like taking an endless icy shower while tearing up £50 notes.
