WHAT I’M WATCHING
Meren Reddy is an actor, writer, director and co-owner and executive producer at Rous House Productions. The first show I binge watched was Friends (I think seasons 4 and 5).
I used to live at hostel at the National School of the Arts, so my sister would tape a month’s worth of episodes and at the end of each month I’d watch four episodes on VHS. I guess that would be considered binge watching, right? They literally felt like my friends. And so spending “time'” with them over two hours a month felt like a hang-out session. I’ve got to the point where I wait for
entire seasons to do their run before I watch them. I have lost patience to wait for a week. Thank god for Netflix.
I guess I’m drawn to specific genres.
I love comedy primarily, then action and sci-fi. When it comes to drama, traditional word-of-mouth marketing is what I rely on. If a friend recommends something or if there’s hype around a show, I’ll check it out.
I think it’s slowly starting to open up for us. I guess my biggest concern is producers owning their content, domestically speaking. The value of ownership is something we’ve been denied. Hopefully with new platforms becoming available to us, the negotiations for ownership might actually become a reality.

What’s missing? Polynesian content? Don’t see much of that. Also, what are those people in Papua New Guinea up to? Not seeing much TV about them.
We’re shooting Die Kasteel — a comedy series for Kyknet. I’m writing season 2 of Elke Skewe Pot for Kyknet as well.
