Many disputes go consumers’ way

-

● It’s illegal for a prescribed debt to be listed on a consumer’s credit profile, but many credit bureaus’ adverse listings relate to prescribed debts. According to the latest Credit Bureau Monitor (September 2017), 80 735 consumers were issued with a free credit report in the third quarter of 2017, meaning that just 0.3% of the credit-active population took advantage of their legislated right to access their annual credit report free.

● 31 631 disputes were lodged in that period — a quarter of reports issued. And of those, 68% were resolved in favour of the consumer.
