My Perfect Sunday

The perfect Sunday morning begins with a visit to church for some spiritual nourishment. Though I’m not a morning person, it only feels right that I start my day off in the house of the Lord.
After church, I’ll spend the morning on some chores (fun, I know) such as laundry and cleaning the house. This is followed by a (very necessary) two-hour nap. I take about three of those on a Sunday to make up for all the sleep I’ve missed out on during a hectic week.
I’ll call my girl up and we’ll do lunch at the Fourways Farmers’ Market. I do love the farmers’ market because of the food, the vibe, and the fact that it’s an outdoor area — I hardly get any fresh air when I’m in the studio, so that’s nice.
I’m a sucker for live bands (of course — I am a musician), and they always have a band playing at the market. So in addition to the good food there, the entertainment is pretty cool.
Once lunch has been consumed and fun
has been had, I’ll head back home and do a little more relaxing . . . maybe play some Xbox, or watch a movie or any of the other things I don’t get to do during the week because of work. If there’s a (good) movie showing at the cinema, then an outing will most likely be in order – because popcorn.
Sundays are often associated with family
and togetherness, so if I have some time left in the day, I’ll probably pay my cousin a visit and maybe braai some meat. Also, it’s always great seeing my nieces — they grow up so fast.
We’ll end off the family visit by sitting around the fire and reminiscing about home and all the quirky characters from there. Sunday evenings are dedicated to solitude, maybe a glass of wine and some background music courtesy of an oldschool soul play list. Sometimes, as a creator of music, you need to just take some time out to enjoy listening to it, so, wine glass in hand, you’ll probably find me chilling on the couch singing along to the sounds of Bill Withers or Bobby Caldwell.
My Sunday ends at about 10pm, because my week starts thereafter. This is the time I spend getting ready for the week ahead, doing admin, reading e-mails and such.
Now that the day is done, all that’s left is to go through a few chapters of whatever Michael Crichton book I’m reading at the time, until I fall asleep.
Kimosabe has been selected by international streaming service Deezer as one of its “NEXT” artists for 2018, the only South African on the list so far. He will, alongside other artists, receive profile development and playlisting support and take part in creative artist marketing campaigns. His debut album is due out this year.
