The mighty Saturn V rocket, pictured, which powered all of Nasa’s “moonshot” missions, burned 20 tons of fuel per second. By comparison, Charles Lindbergh’s “Spirit of St Louis” aircraft burned just 204kg of fuel during his record-breaking 33-hour transatlan­tic flight in 1927.
