JEWELLER

I have been a jeweller for close to 40 years. My work is based on my experience as a woman from Africa.

Bushman symbols and artefacts inspired my earrings. My aim is to express a personal, visual language through markings and textures — enabling the viewer to see something of the maker in them.

To me handmade craft is an expression of the artist

through the medium that he or she uses to communicate. It’s a turning away from mass-produced creations and an embracing of originality, authenticity, personal, hands-on and “slow” creations.

HMC is important for small, creative businesses

like Tinsel as it focuses on what our brand prides itself on: handmade, authentic, South African-made craft. HMC offers a platform for South African artists to showcase their work and make evident the worldclass quality our country has to offer. It is proudly African and South-African and encourages locally made and produced work.

I’m looking forward to being inspired by the allround creativity and new trends and ideas. I’m most excited to see all the jewellery stands.
