HOW TO FOOL-PROOF SELFIE SPOTS
Could safety seats be the answer? One Irishman thinks so, writes Elizabeth Sleith
The perfect travel selfie is a wonderful thing, but sometimes getting the right shot can be a downright dangerous business. Especially when it’s at a precarious viewpoint or dramatic landmark, tragedies can occur — and there are often stories in the news about people falling off high points or over the edges of cliffs in pursuit of the perfect photo. Now, an Irish politician has pitched a novel way to keep travellers in his own country — itself not short on stunning clifftops and high points — safe: through the installation of selfie seats and/or stands at popular, but potentially dangerous, points.
Minister for Mental Health and Older People Jim Daly told the Southern Star newspaper that he had made the proposal to the national tourism authority, Failte Ireland. In addition to helping prevent accidents, the seats could also point people to the best place for a shot, he said.
“Tourists, being time-sensitive, like to know where to go and what to do,” he said. “They also like clear shots.”
