Shocking Telkom bill caught me out too

-

I READ with great interest your article last week on Telkom international charges. I, too, got caught with a R324 bill for a 16minute call to Melbourne, a number I have phoned for six years with no problem. My biggest complaint was that I logged three formal complaints with Telkom, wrote a letter to an ombudsman and made many attempted calls to Icasa — all in vain as nobody could explain the charges.

Telkom did not send a letter with our bill advising us of the increases and I certainly did not get a warning when I dialled. As a Telkom customer of 45 years I feel aggrieved at its lack of response. I am a pensioner and do not want surprise bills of R1 000. Thank you for your superb column; I look forward to reading it. —
