Real storm over Texas blows away latest Trump row

Sunday Times - - WEEK IN REVIEW -

Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast as a Category 4 storm on Friday, bringing life-threatening winds and the likelihood of catastrophic flooding as the most powerful storm in over a decade to hit the mainland US. Which was handy, in a way, for US President Donald Trump, to help camouflage the news that he had pardoned convicted Arizona county sheriff Joe Arpaio, the “toughest sheriff in America”, who was convicted in a case involving racial profiling.

India’s top court unanimously ruled that individual privacy is a fundamental right, in a landmark case involving a new national identity card. The verdict is a setback for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose government had argued that privacy was not protected by the constitution.
