Province U-19s too good for the Sharks

WESTERN PROVINCE stayed in second place on the South African Under-19 Championships standings after handing hosts the Sharks a 58-21 bonuspoint beating at Kings Park yesterday.

The Golden Lions remain at the summit with a two-point lead after a 73-24 home mauling of Free State but have played one more game than their Cape rivals.

WP’S ninth win increases their points tally by five to 45.

That should become 50 as they are expected to dish out another hiding to winless Eastern Province on home soil, possibly even target three figures again after winning the first encounter on the road 108-3.

WP put eight tries past the Sharks, six of them converted, while the home side managed three goaled tries of their own.

Dotting down twice for the victors were Shaine Orderson (flank) and wingers Christian Ambadiang and Sako Makata, while Jesse Johnson (eighthman) and Marco Labuschagne (fullback) were the other two to cross the whitewash. Lyle Hendrickswas on target with six conversions and two penalties for a personal haul of 18 points.

“We owned our opponents from start to finish,” said WP coach Nazeem Adams. “We were physically superior with the forwards at the forefront of it all.

“Things have been coming along nicely these past three weeks, now for the next assignment, one against EP who we won’t underestimate despite their poor form.”

There was joy for WP’S U21s as well after they eased past their Sharks counterparts 19-10 for their second win from four outings, a result that keeps alive their play-offs hopes.

Juarno Augustus returned from injury wearing the No8 jersey to score WP’S sole try.

Flyhalf Tiaan Swanepoel added the extras and also put over four penalty goals for 14 points to his name.
