SHOPPERS’ HAVEN NORTH OF DURBAN EXPECTED TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE REGIONAL ECONOMY,WRITES RAVI GOVENDER

CORNUBIA Mall is tipped to bring to life the vision of a new Sandton north of Durban. As impressive as Sandton is, KZN’S 65 000m2 mall points to the developer, Investec Property, aiming even higher.

The developers are at pains to stress they are not competing with Gateway as the two malls are meant to be complementary.

Param Joseph, who owns the Mattress King chain, is to open his ninth store in the Cornubia Mall – one of a number of major tenants looking forward to the venture.

More than 110 retailers have signed leases with the mall.

The shopping emporium will feature Dis-chem, Woolworths, Basil Manning, Outdoor Warehouse, Baby Boom, Edgars, Ackermans, Truworths, Mr Price Sport, Sportscene and Jayshree’s Rivaz.

National supermarket chains Pick n Pay and Checkers will also be there, while fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the new Virgin Active gym at the main entrance.

Fast food outlets will include family favourites Spur, Nino’s, Panarottis, John Dory’s, Café Cuba, Mcdonald’s, Chicken Licken and KFC.

In a lush Kwazulu-natal setting, the strategically located mall will be easy to reach from the N2 and M41 highways.

The food, fashion, lifestyle and sport activities focus on families, communities and the environment.

Cornubia Mall will be different in that it will combine an indoor and outdoor lifestyle experience.

You will be able to shop, dine and unwind and feel as if you’re in the outdoors as you cross connecting bridges, landscaped walkways and pavements in well-lit spaces.

There will be plenty of parking – open bays and in the basement – free for a few hours, with nominal rates applied after that.

Among the many KZN firsts will be:

Bounce Trampoline Park. 2 000m² Cycle Lab Megastore. A 70km mountain bike trail through the Cornubia green belt, starting and ending at the mall.

Three outdoor five-a-side soccer pitches. A Consol Glass boutique store. A Brooklyn Brothers restaurant. Seven-screen Nu Metro cinema complex featuring multi-sensory 4DX, fully immersive Xtreme and VIP theatre formats, regular 2D and 3D cinemas, as well as a VIP lounge and in-cinema dining menu.

All cinemas will have the latest world-class digital projection, seating design and audio technology.

The mall will be officially opened on Thursday, September 28. Opening specials include:
