Retro fun at soda-pop shop

Sunday World - - Shwashwi -

SHWASHWI is a bit of a culinary impresario and loves few things better than good food and wine, and all their accompaniments.

Chewing gum is definitely not one of the accompaniments

– empty calories don’t do it for Shwashwi, and this lady certainly doesn’t want a jawline that rivals Ridge’s from The

Bold.

So the Chappies event at Corner Cafe, in Craighall, Jozi, was not full of promise for yours truly. The venue was transformed into a retro American soda- pop shop, decked out with macaroons on cake tiers, old ingredients scales, telephones, manual cash registers and (allegedly) 150 000 Chappies pieces strewn around the room. It was too cute for words.

We were divided into five teams, each with a celebrity host. Shwashwi found herself at the table hosted by former The Wild and Isidingo actress Hayley Owen.

Others hosting tables were DJ Fresh and Poppy Ntshongwana, who had really bad matt hair. Between Johanna Mukoki ’ s terrible fashion and Poppy’s bad hair days, Shwashwi feels she needs to host a celebrity Fashion

Emergency reality show. Our people are crying out for help.

Spotted Ed Jordan’s shiny dome from across the room. He looked rather bored with his team, which he was hosting with Survivor SA remnant Ashley Hayden, who obviously did not bring her A-game.

It was such a pleasure to see veteran presenter Nimrod Nkosi, who hosted the game show part of the evening.

Oh yes, the event was to introduce 170 new “Did you know?” facts on the wrappers.
