Awards ceremony sets off booby trap

Sunday World - - Shwashwi -

NEVER mind raining men, it was raining boobs and skin at the Feather Awards on Thursday evening something Shwa would settle for any day over the ghastly rainstorm that spoilt our Wednesday.

The flamboyant awards certainly brought out the wild side in celebrities an opportunity some saw to set their puppies free it seems. South Africa’s rising It Girl” Nomzamo Mbatha fresh from bagging a Drum Award last week took home the Hot Chick of the Year Award. But it was her milkshake jig on stage that brought the boys and some girls to a standing ovation and screaming frenzy. Those puppies were sure fighting for their freedom from her eye-popping leopard print number.

actress Khanya Mkhangisa’s black lace number left very little to the imagination. And while such high fashion may work on a statuesque model, the small frame was just swallowed by the dress. Darling, Shwa thinks you are trying way too hard. Sexy should be easy, not forced. and was a sport enough to come up to the stage to accept it legs and cleavage galore. High five, ghetto queen!

Oh, Siphokazi January is starting to shine in the fashion stakes. Loved the lemon floor sweeper with green gems she was wearing. Keep it up girl.

Tamara Dey sealed her status as the original fag hag when she took to the stage in a Spice Girl-meets-Lady Gaga-crosses-Nicki Minaj mash-up performance. Her spandex onesie gave Shwa nightmares of camel toe while her backup dancers twiggy men in Katy Perry wigs and heels proved they could never be Calvin Klein underwear models. At least they were having fun while showing their shortcomings.

MCs Stoan Seate and Lalla Hirayama had sweet chemistry on stage. Shwa loved Lalla’s seven costume changes courtesy of David Tlale, but where did she go after the show?

The most dramatic performance of the night was Brenda Ntambo, Thembisile Ntaka and Kelly Khumalo’s tribute to members of the LGBT community who had fallen victim to hate crime. Their rendition of Michael Jackson’s Earth Song was so stirring, the crowd called for an encore. When Kelly came out rubbing her tummy under the orange jacket, Shwa thought she was going to pull a Beyoncé at the VMAs on us. The ladies put on a helluva performance, Thembisile is our very own Jennifer Hudson.

Oh, Bujy Bikwa won Socialite of the Year and went to pains to prove he deserves it later on by dancing all night while using the voluminous tent he was wearing as a prop.
