In August, a fire broke out at Luthuli House, the party’s headquarters in the Joburg CBD.

The fire damage was restricted to the sixth floor, which houses units belonging to the office of secretarygeneral Gwede Mantashe.

Another fire broke out a month later at the reception area of the same premises.

Moloto said the party did not want to jump to conclusions, but they were devastated at the extent of the damage, because they had lost important documents in the fires.

Most of those documents were records of community grievances that are taken to Parliament by the resident MPs who act as the public representatives of that constituency.

The fire has completely sabotaged all our work there,” he said.

Moloto said he hoped that the police investigation would reveal the cause of the fire and find those behind the break-in.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said he was aware of the fire, but was awaiting a full report.
