SOUTH African Brew­eries (SAB) has roped in celebri­ties Me­lanie Bala and Robert Marawa as am­bas­sadors for its new 18+ cam­paign, which is aimed at dis­cour­ag­ing mi­nors from drink­ing.

Re­search by the Unisa shows that a per­cent­age of teenagers in the av­er­age South African home have at some stage ex­per­i­mented with al­co­hol, but that the vast ma­jor­ity of par­ents be­lieve that their kids do not drink.

SAB wants to en­cour­age par­ents to have open and hon­est con­ver­sa­tions about al­co­hol with their chil­dren.

All South African adults have a role to play in bol­ster­ing the ef­forts to re­duce un­der­age al­co­hol con­sump­tion, and the prob­lems that arise if left unchecked, said Bala.
