FORMER gardener-turned-chef Thokozani Mpungose is proving to be quite the culinary maestro.
The 32-year-old from KwaZulu-Natal was named Young Up & Coming Baking Master at the Cape Legends Inter Hotel Challenge last year and has been recognised as one of the top three chefs nationally in this year’s competition.
Mpungose, sous chef at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani, paid tribute to his mentors executive chefs Shaun Munro, Yoshan Naidu and Clinton Bonhomme.
I am honoured to be part of this amazing team.
They have played a huge role in my success and I believe I still have a lot to learn,” said Mpungose.
We are extremely proud of Thokozani. It’s his first attempt at a culinary competition and he has outdone himself,” said Munro, Tsogo Sun’s executive chef.
