THE SABC is giving away R500 000 to an artist whose song will be most popular this festive season.

The SABC Summer Song of the Year 2016/17 campaign was launched on Friday and promises to be bigger and better.

In its inaugural year, which was 2015, Nathi s hit was voted the best

’ song, and the Eastern Cape-born artist walked away with R150 000 in cash and a car.

This year, the artist to emerge victorious, will drive away in a KIA vehicle to the value of R250 000 and a R150 000 cash prize. An additional R200 000 will be awarded to the artist for a performance in Joburg at the prize handover and in Richards Bay where the broadcaster will host their end of the year bash on December 31.

The winner will perform at the bash at midnight and the act will be live on SABC 1 s and on

’ all the broadcaster s radio stations.

’ The SABC song of the year has been described as the song that is at least dominant in five radio stations and received the most votes from the public. The SABC Summer Song “of the Year campaign is about awarding the most popular song of the year,” said Owen Ndlovu of Michael Owen Productions, the company contracted to handle the campaign. Ndlovu said SABC s radio

’ stations would join forces culminating in the choice of one song. The campaign

“brings all 18 SABC radio stations together which will, in turn, encourage their listeners to vote for a favourite song from those particular station s playlist,”

’ he said.
