Those responsible for VBS Bank mess must go rot in jail

Sunday World - - Viewpoint - Tom Mhlanga Braamfontein

The recent revelation of the report regarding the money stolen at the VBS Mutual Bank is a clear indication that our country is rotten beyond control.

How can one explain how people, some of whom claim to be leaders, can steal such an amount of money – to the tune of close to R2bn.

We must bear in mind that that money could have been used to improve the quality of life of the poor people who invested in that bank.

These people have no shame and are taking the lives of these people lightly.

It is also disappointing that a large part of it cannot be recovered.

The relevant authorities must ensure that they punish those responsible harshly so that a lesson will be taught to others.

We can’t be singing ‘down with corruption’ every day when nothing is done to the culprits.

Those who are identified here deserve to rot in jail, including those who benefited from this looting indirectly.
