Three of our lady teams participated in the Kowie Ladies Classic last week. They all returned with glowing reports about the organisation, catering and camaraderie. Little was said about their bowling achievements?

Last Tuesday was SPAR Day and we welcomed Allan Freeman from Gonubie who had arrived with the ladies team which is skipped by his wife Maureen, as well as one of the Port Elizabeth teams who arrived later in the afternoon.

We took to the green and Rob Owsley’s form of late put his team on top. Rob’s team of Dave Tyrrell, Ronnie Smith and Gerald Mills beat Allan Freeman’s team of fours 10 points and shot profit of 17. The runner-up was Dick Schuurman’s team of trips who beat John Hubbard’s team. The Spar vouchers were presented to Rob’s team.

Our Jean Louw Ladies’ Classic took place the past week and we were very lucky that the rain held off until the tournament was finished. We would like to thank all the clubs who supported our tournament. The winners who won R1 000 each came from Gonubie. The team was Faith Hayidakis, Margi Hobbs, Sybil Clarke and Wendy Benetello. The runner-up was Maureen Freeman’s team also from Gonubie.

We would like to thank our sponsors, the Louw family, VW Market Square Port Alfred and the businesses in town for their very generous sponsorship.

Jonine McFarlane thanks the club members who worked so hard to make this tournament the success it was.

On Saturday our teams went to Kenton to play in the Moore Shield for the men. Our men lost both their matches, and the ladies played the Colleen Timm and won one and lost one.

At the club the tabs-in played for the Courtyard Vouchers. This was won by Dick Schuurman, Dave Arnison (a visitor from Sizella in KwaZulu-Natal) and Rob Walker.
