Celebrating a year of life support with Holistic EMS
PRIVATE ambulance service Holistic EMS (Emergency Medical Services), opened in Port Alfred in June last year and has become a welcome and comforting sight in the community.
The emergency care and rescue service is available and specialises in trauma and medical cases, ICU transfers, neonatal transfers, as well as offering first aid training and is available for events to ensure safety for all. Holistic EMS is a 24-hour service available to the community.
Holistic EMS is headed by operational manager and advanced life support paramedic Karen Romans, who has a National Diploma in emergency medical care and rescue from Durban University of Technology. The other members of the team are Maleckias Chirombe who is a basic ambulance assistant (BAA), along with fellow BAAs Pumela Kitshini and Alfred Beja. Joining the team is the owner of Holistic EMS, Sibongiseni Ntensa, who is a BTech with a BA in Emergency Care and Rescue.
“In our first year we have received great support from the community and we have been involved with numerous rescue cases, vehicle accidents and worked closed with the SAPS and Sky Security. We are excited for the future as we continue to grow and I am proud of the high quality of care we give to the community in which we serve,” Romans said.
“We chose the name Holistic because we care for the body, mind and spirit of the person, and because of our desire to give back to the community.”
Romans was a decorated police officer, ex-traffic officer and missionary and has previous experience working for Government EMS, Netcare and ER24, and has been in the emergency care industry for 33 years. She was one of the pioneers of the motorcycle response unit at Netcare in Pretoria.
“I am a passionate paramedic – I have a passion for patient care and know my patients are going to get good service and good care.
