Kowie Bowling Club

Talk of the Town - - Sport -

On the second Tuesday of the month, we played “SUPERSPAR” Day, and with a good turnout in perfect weather we had some guys in top form.

The winner of the competition was Dick Schuurman and his team of Margaret Stegman and Neville Westcott who defeated Mike Beaumont’s team by a full-house 10 points and a shot profit of 15. The runner-up was Siegi Rohrs’s team who defeated Rod Gradwell’s team. The rest of the games were all very close affairs.

Last Thursday, we played the fourth round of our Kenton/Kowie and Bess Tweedie competition at our club. Kowie Club men’s section came away with a good result winning three and losing one game. This gives Kowie an overall lead of 18 points to the 14 of Kenton, and a positive shot profit of 23 with two rounds to go.

In the ladies’ division (Bess Tweedie) Kowie won one and lost one. This gives an overall position of the two clubs sharing on eight points each with Kowie on a positive shot profit of 11.

In conjunction with the inter-club competition we had a small turnout of two rinks for tabs where I only received one card. We will sort out this Megabucks competition next week.

On the weekend, the EA Ladies’ Trips was played at our club with two sections of four teams each taking part, while the Men’s Trips is being played at Albany Club this weekend.

Ladies’ section 1 was won by J Kriel’s (Kowie) team with six points and shot profit of 47, and the runner-up was S Prevost (PA). Section 2 was won by J Armitage (PA) on 6 points and a shot profit of 24, with R Low (Kenton) as the runner-up.

In the men’s division, the sections were won by S Rohrs (Kowie), R Croly (Kenton), M Grant (GBC) and C Bartlett (Albany). The finals of both men’s and ladies’ competition will be played this weekend at a venue to be announced.

Tabs bowls also took place with only two rinks of fours. Pieter Stegmann’s team of Peter Ford, Mireille McPhee and Marion Walwyn beat Dick Schuurman’s team by two points and a bit of shot profit with the runners-up Gavin Deenik and Keith Kolesky sharing their peeled game. The Stegmann team was presented with the Guido’s vouchers. Duties for the week August

21-27: Greens – (Roll) Ron Smith, (Mark) Neville Westcott and Tony Brown, Tabs – (Cash) Jean Botma, Bar – Neville Westcott and Megan Kriel.
