Safety issues raised at construction site
CONCERNS were raised by a resident regarding a large hole that was exposed at the construction site at the Heritage Mall last week.
With the ongoing building work at the mall, space in the car park has been reduced by several square metres, necessitating visitors to the mall to walk beside the corrugated steel boundary sheets that secure the building site.
The hole was big enough for a small child to fall into, according to the resident, who also provided photos of the open construction site and buckled bricks in the paving.
Talk of the Town reported the problem to mall owners Western Gruppe on Saturday and when a TotT reporter visited the mall on Sunday, we found the area had been cordoned off. Heritage Mall centre manager Zanel Venter responded to TotT’s queries and asked that any complaints and concerns regarding the building work at the mall be reported to her. Venter’s offices are located on the first floor of the mall opposite Mr Price.
“The construction company, KMG Construction, has an excellent safety record. We apologise for any concerns raised and will continue to make safety a priority during construction,” Venter said.
