‘Mer­maids’ make splash at chal­lenge

THE Ken­ton Ten­nis Club hosted the sec­ond an­nual chal­lenge match be­tween the girls of Port Al­fred High School and the Ken­ton Club ladies, dubbed the “Mer­maids”, last Wed­nes­day.

This round robin event, held in Ken­ton, was played in a great spirit of fun and thor­oughly en­joyed by all the play­ers.

In this, the sec­ond year, the Mer­maids were con­vinc­ing win­ners, hav­ing nar­rowly lost last year.

How­ever, Ken­ton or­gan­iser Sue Bax­ter said that most im­por­tantly the real wins on the day were the friend­ships created and the good sports­man­ship shown all round.

The teacher in charge of the girls, Mar­lene Gib­son, said the matchup was most en­joy­able and the girls had fought hard.
