Busy back to sport week for PAHS
THE first week of the third team saw Port Alfred High School sports teams hit the ground running with a jam-packed schedule of fixtures and practices. ARCHERY
The PAHS team once again excelled with Rachel Lax and Tamsyn de Vos each bagging two golds while Ross Elliott brought home a silver and a bronze medal from the Gonubie Inter-Schools 2D and 3D Competition. CHESS
The PAHS junior chess team lost their tournament against a very strong Merrifield College team. HOCKEY
The PAHS U9B girls drew 2-2 vs Merrifield College while the U9A girls lost 6-5; U9B boys lost 5-4, U9A boys lost 4-2; U10 girls won 4-2; U10 boys lost 3-0; U11 girls won 5-0; U11 boys lost 5-2; U13 girls won 3-0 and the U13 boys lost 4-1. The home team generally hold their own in the first half, but lost out in the second, once again demonstrating the disadvantage they have by not practising on an astro turf.
In the high school games, PAHS took on Linkside high with gusto and the results were as follows: U14s won 1-0, U16s drew 0-0 and the 1st XI Won 1-0. Special mention must be made of the first team captain Sam Solz who played her 75th game for PAHS on Saturday. Headmaster Clive Pearson presented her with her number at Monday’s assembly. NETBALL
It was a clean sweep for the PAHS junior netball team with Merrifield suffering defeat by a wide margin The PAHS U9 team won 6-0 and did the U10 team 13-1, the U11 team 15-1, the U12 team 8-0 and the U13 team 21-0.
The high school netball teams also triumphed in their matches against Linkside High with only the U16 team losing 10- 11. The U14A team won 17-6, the U14B team won 10-4, the U15 won 8-0, the second team won 18-2 and the first team won 23-15. RUGBY
While the U15A team lost 22-19 against Linkside High, the PAHS 1st XV won decisively with a final score of 31-3. SWIMMING
The PAHS swimmers recently took part in the PE Amateurs Club Winter Gala with Will Beatt securing a bronze medal for 200m backstroke, a gold for the 200m freestyle and another gold for the 100m freestyle.
