Un­reg­is­tered health staff hit

Two un­reg­is­tered health prac­ti­tion­ers have been ar­rested in Lim­popo, the Health Pro­fes­sions Coun­cil of SA (HPCSA) said yes­ter­day.

The HPCSA said po­lice ar­rested Mod­jadji Ngobeni and Henry Haynes this week.

HPCSA spokesper­son Daph­ney Chuma said Ngobeni, who was prac­tis­ing in Ma­maila vil­lage, was ar­rested af­ter a tip-off re­ceived from a res­i­dent.

“Ngobeni in­di­cated she had just com­pleted her nurs­ing qual­i­fi­ca­tions, but was not reg­is­tered with the SA Nurs­ing Coun­cil. She was de­tained,” Chuma said.

Haynes was prac­tis­ing as a clin­i­cal psy­chol­o­gist in Modi­molle, Chuma added.

“At the time of the in­spec­tion, Haynes was found treat­ing a mi­nor.

“When ques­tioned on site, mem­bers of the com­mu­nity and sev­eral po­lice of­fi­cers in­di­cated they had been re­ferred to Haynes by their re­spec­tive gen­eral prac­ti­tion­ers.”

Both were re­leased on bail. Haynes may not prac­tise as a psy­chol­o­gist while the mat­ter is pend­ing. – ANA
