Qual­comm will appeal R10bn fine

– US smart­phone chip de­signer Qual­comm will appeal a de­ci­sion handed down by Tai­wan to im­pose a 23.4 bil­lion Tai­wan dol­lar (R10.4 bil­lion) fine for vi­o­la­tion of the coun­try’s an­titrust reg­u­la­tions, staterun me­dia re­ported.

Qual­comm said it dis­agrees with the de­ci­sion of Tai­wan’s Fair Trade Com­mis­sion (FTC).

The US tech gi­ant in­tends to seek a stay on any re­quired mea­sures and appeal the de­ci­sion to Tai­wan’s courts af­ter re­ceiv­ing the FTC’s for­mal de­ci­sion, ex­pected in the next few weeks. – DPA
