Two possible Pick 6 bankers for brave punters

Pick 6 players have taken a battering in the past week but they could be tempted back into the ring by prospects at Turffontein today.

Two horses have been heavily backed to win in Pick 6 races and either or both can be bankered in exotic bets.

There have been four Pick 6 carryovers from seven local meetings over the past week, while two of the pots that were won outright had six-figure dividends.

None of that carryover money will be on offer at today’s meeting, but the chance to go short in two legs of Pick 6 perms should encourage resilient punters to tackle the ever-popular bet type.

In Race 6, a MR 102 Handicap over 1000m, Seven Lives is quoted at 13-20. This rapidly rising star of the sprinting ranks has won three of his six outings since his debut just nine months ago and connections seem confident of another good performance up the Standside straight.

Prepared by sprint expert Paul Peter, Seven Lives was slow out of the blocks in his first few runs, but still did well, thanks to a notable turn of foot. Last time out, as the favourite and over this distance at the Vaal, he again found himself out of his ground early on but flew up to grab second place.

Piere Strydom, a past master at the jump, takes the reins this time and one would expect the threeyear-old son of Seventh Rock to atone for that loss.

Mount Keith, from the burgeoning yard of newly licenced Ashley Fortune, has been backed into 2-1 favouritism in Race 9, a MR 66 Handicap and the final leg of the Pick 6.

The Zimbabwe import is overdue a victory after a string of narrow defeats. Significantly, jockey Aldo Domeyer travels up to the Highveld from Cape Town for the day and, of his five rides, this one looks most likely to be covering the air fare.
