Three supplemented into the Grade 1 Cape Guineas

DRAWS: MIXED FORTUNES FOR THE TRIO WITH REGARDS TO BARRIER POSITIONS ʂ Marshall rates William Longsword highly.

- Cape Town

William Longsword and the Joey Ramsden-trained pair, A New Dawn and I Travel Light, were supplemented into the R1million Grand Parade Cape Guineas at Kenilworth on Saturday 17 December.

It costs R9,120 to supplement a runner into the Grade 1 race at this stage.

A New Dawn made the running when fourth to 28-1 shot Gold Standard in the Grade 2 Selangor Cup where stable companion Table Bay, the 7-10 favourite, was surprisingly beaten into third. He is nicely drawn at No 6.

I Travel Light sprang a 16-1 surprise in a Kenilworth Maiden Plate in June and followed up over 1400m in a handicap at the same course in August.

He was second, beaten only a neck, to Gold Standard in a Fairview Listed race at the end of last month. I Travel Light will have to jump from the outside of the field if he runs.

William Longsword suffered an over-reach when failing to live up to expectations in the Selangor in which he finished sixth, but he returned to form with a convincing win in a 1600m handicap at Kenilworth on Tuesday. He has landed No 22 draw.

Vaughan Marshall said: “He quickened up well – which is a good sign – and he stayed on nicely. He is a very good horse and, when you see horses like him, it makes you glad to wake up in the morning.”

All three horses are owned by Mayfair Speculators. Final declarations take place today. Entries for the R1-million Grand Parade Cape Guineas (Grade 1) over 1600m at Kenilworth on Saturday 17 December
