Unregistered health staff hit
Two unregistered health practitioners have been arrested in Limpopo, the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA) said yesterday.
The HPCSA said police arrested Modjadji Ngobeni and Henry Haynes this week.
HPCSA spokesperson Daphney Chuma said Ngobeni, who was practising in Mamaila village, was arrested after a tip-off received from a resident.
“Ngobeni indicated she had just completed her nursing qualifications, but was not registered with the SA Nursing Council. She was detained,” Chuma said.
Haynes was practising as a clinical psychologist in Modimolle, Chuma added.
“At the time of the inspection, Haynes was found treating a minor.
“When questioned on site, members of the community and several police officers indicated they had been referred to Haynes by their respective general practitioners.”
Both were released on bail. Haynes may not practise as a psychologist while the matter is pending. – ANA
