Green Lantern to shine at Fairview

- Viv Greybe

Alan Greeff-trained Green Lantern is holding form well and looks on target for a sixth career win at Fairview today when teamed up with Greg Cheyne in Race 4 and top-rated event, a MR 89 Handicap over 1600m.

Cheyne was aboard three runs back when the five-year-old came from last to snatch victory over 1400m. He was unlucky in defeat in his following outing when sent off favourite, as he ran on strongly from a slow start and finished just a neck second over 1600m.

The combination recovered losses next time when coming from last and winning by an increasing 1.75 lengths over 1400m. With the advantage of a good inside draw, this gelding should be in the winner’s enclosure.

However, his principal rival is Cape Town raider Ben-Hur out of the stable of Candice Bass-Robinson with Craig Zackey aboard. This two-time winner has been threatening another win, more so last time when running on well and finishing third over 2000m at Kenilworth. With a handy galloping weight of 53.5kg he should make his presence felt.

Also to be respected is Grant Paddock-trained Lord Marshal (Louis Mxothwa) who is long overdue his fifth career win. This six-year-old comes off two creditable placed runs over 1600m and 1400m, so he could be in the final call again. Next best are Wish To Land, Story Of My Life and Mangrove.

The hot stable of Yvette Bremner could come to light with March Music (Ryan Munger) in Race 2, the Breeders Guineas Plate, and can be followed home by Madame Speaker, Klever Kathy, Western Angel and Beautiful Beat.
