The Herald letters policy

LETTERS must bear your full name, address and a contact number. The Herald will withhold letter writers’ names from publicatio­n on request, but details must be provided. For SMSes, please provide your name and a pseudonym, if you do not want your name published.

Preference will be given to short, concise letters. Letters must be the sender’s original work and not copied from elsewhere.

Preference will be given to the views of ordinary readers above submission­s from political parties.

The Herald welcomes comment and debate on news or matters of public interest. Vulgar or abusive language and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

The editor reserves the right, without stating reasons, to shorten or edit letters or SMSes. The editor similarly reserves the right not to publish any given letter or SMS.
