School rowers excel at Knysna Midway Classic

THE St Andrew’s College rowers did very well at the recent Knysna Midway Classic Regatta and took many podium finishes.

Forty-three St Andrew’s rowers travelled to Knysna for the event.

This was the first opportunit­y to test themselves against schools from the Eastern and Western Cape.

Jason Thomas won gold in the U15A single scull. He repeated the result with partner Brendan Mouritzen in the doubles scull.

Richard Southern claimed the bronze in the U15A single scull.

The U15A quad took gold by a big margin, as did the 15B quad.

The squad finished with a silver behind Bishops in the octuple.

The U16 squad had tight racing in all their events, with silver in the A four and A eight, silver and bronze in the B pairs, bronze in the B four and a classy gold in the A pair by Ben Kroon and Logan Smit.

The open squad dominated the weekend with gold and bronze in the U19 coxless four, gold and silver in the coxed four.

Three pairs qualified for the final and took gold, bronze and fifth in a close race.

The first quad took bronze despite having a nasty clash early in the race.

The first eight had convincing wins in both the open men’s A eight and U19 first eights.

St Andrew’s continued their success at the head racing held over 3 000m and 5 000m.

The U15 octuple claimed the silver medal, the U16A repeated the result with silver in their event

The opens took gold in the first quad, while the first eight took gold.
