AN administration office at The House of Biscuits in Port Elizabeth was gutted by fire yesterday.

While the cause of the fire is still unknown, police and fire officials suspect an electrical fault sparked the fire that started in the boardroom.

The blaze was spotted at about 6am by a staff member.

Firefighters put out the blaze within two hours.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the fire was contained to the administration section of the building in Evans Avenue, Kensington.

“The fire spread from the boardroom area,” she said.

“However, it was confined to the administration section.”

No foul play is suspected at this stage.

“Fire investigators together with the insurance provider will be conducting an investigation and will compile a report,” Naidu said.

Nelson Mandela Bay municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said: “Severe damage [was done] to the building and roof structure of the administration and storage area.

“Arson is not suspected at this stage.”
