Tavern owner faces charge of murder
A PORT Elizabeth tavern owner is facing charges of murder and attempted murder after an altercation at his establishment in Korsten shortly after midnight on Saturday.
One male nursing student based at Livingstone Hospital was killed and two others wounded during the altercation.
Provincial health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the two wounded men had been treated and discharged.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said: “According to witnesses, the deceased was arguing with someone when the owner intervened and asked them to leave.
“An altercation ensued involving the tavern owner.
"It is believed the tavern owner, 61, fired two shots. A 28-year-old man was killed at the scene."
