Tanks help with water problems

The Herald (South Africa) - - NEWS -

THE Department of Water and Sanitation, in partnership with cleaning product giant Sunlight, donated two large water tanks to communities in Peddie yesterday.

The third partner in the project is the Amathole District Municipality, which will fill the tanks.

The 5 000l tanks were donated to Eluxolweni Village and Ebongweni B Village in Ward 3 as part of a shortterm intervention to address water challenges, the department said.

“In Eluxolweni, the tank will benefit 315 people and in Ebongweni B, 1 070 people will benefit,” department spokesman Thandile Ngcume said.

“Amathole Municipality will fill up the tanks whenever there’s a need or whenever they are empty.”

The water would be fit to drink, Ngcume said.

Presently, Ebongweni B receives water from the municipality but there are hitches in the supply due to the failure of ageing infrastructure. Eluxolweni has to source its water supply from a neighbouring village. – Guy Rogers
