Newcomers Bloemendal face a fresh test of their credentials when they host an NMB Premier League 50-over cricket double-header this weekend.

Eight matches will be played as the 50-over format starts, but fixtures will not include Madibaz 1 and 2 teams, whose players are writing exams.

In the longer version they will fancy their chances at their home ground in Finnis Street, which has proven to be the graveyard of opposition teams.

Their first opponents on Saturday are United Brothers, who had a superb run in the league last season.

On Sunday, they host SA Home Loans Union, who will be hoping to exact a measure of revenge after losing to Bloemendal in the Mayoral Cup.

PECC face BLG Gelvandale on Saturday and Tavcor Commercial Old Grey on Sunday.

Both matches will be played on St George’s A.

The two noteworthy derbies will see Jendamark United taking on Motherwell on Saturday and Superspar Despatch and Uitenhage lock horns.
