FUSION OF DANCE AND VERSE

-

Dancers (from left) Jemma van Breda, Lindsley Augustine, Caroline Tyrell, Sherwin Green, Thandeka Maquebula, Jarryd Watson, Talisa Cornwall and Thobogo Mncwabe rehearse for the production Colourful at the Playhouse Drama tonight.

The show is produced by non-profit organisation Wentworth Arts and Culture. It will be the first professional showcase choreographed and directed by Watson.

Colourful brings a vibrant and diverse cast of seven dancers and a poet to narrate a story about the transition from apartheid to democracy. It is a fusion of contemporary dance, hip hop and poetry.

‘The one thing that I love about the arts is they are so dynamic and create a platform for social justice, enlightenment and knowledge about social issues Colourful indulges in aspects the audience will identify with and be entertained by,’ said Watson.

The production introduces young aspiring dancers into professional theatre. The dancers come from different outreach training programmes and dance studios and were selected from an audition.

Over the past 10 years Watson has done exceptional work in dance for the youth, creating access to training and development, and international exposure.

Colourful has two shows at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets available via Computicket. Call 082 683 9665.
