Love music, love wine? Pair the two for a classic harmony

-

IF the thought of pairing your playlist with wine is music to your ears, listen up! Just as a glass of vino enhances your meal, so the perfect wine promises to get your toes tapping to your favourite tunes (and that’s not just what we heard through the grapevine!) These wine and music pairings will have you hitting all the right notes: Pop: Sauvignon Blanc If chart-topping tracks by the latest overnight sensation strike a chord with you, then the Neil Ellis Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc is your bag. Featuring catchy beats and even catchier lyrics, pop is the pleasant, affable backtrack to our everyday lives that offers something for (almost) everyone. Similarly, try the Tokara Elgin Sauvignon Blanc. Hip-hop: Shiraz Can’t help krumping every time someone drops a hip-hop track? Then a Shiraz is the one for you. Just as hip-hop boasts rhythmic rapping punctuated by bassy beats, so does the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah or the Credo Shiraz. Rock: strong Hard-edgedCapeback Blendbeat electricand edgy guitars, vocals a with plenty of attitude characterise rock music. This pairs well with the award winning KWV Abraham Perold Tributum 2014. This wine, like rock, promises to bring out your wild side. Blues: Cabernet Franc If the blues, with its emotional lyrics of lost love and hard times soothe your soul, then the Flagship Cabernet Franc will no doubt be your preferred musical accompaniment. As an alternative, give the Hermanuspietersfontein Swartskaap a go. Jazz: Chenin Blanc The sax, the trumpet, the trombone... what’s not to love about the sassy, brassy sounds of a jazz band? These robust and lively hip-swinging tunes pair well with the sultry smooth and sexy flavours of the pre-deberg Dry Land Collection Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2015. For something different, why not sample a bottle of the Babylonstoren Chenin Blanc or the Drostdy Hof Stein Select for something a bit easier. Classical: Pinot Noir Your perfect score features soaring concertos and gentle overtures? You’re a classical music lover through and through and the Paul Wallace Brave Heart Pinot Noir is your ideal music mate. Alternatively, with Kevin King Wines Bazza 2013. It is clear wine and music share so much more than just notes, no matter which bottle you choose to pop open!
