Thanks Good Samaritans

- From: SIMON DEHAL

THANK you for the coverage of the pop-up shop initiative in uMhlanga on Youth Day, where needy people were able to select new or quality used clothing and shoes free of charge. In addition, children were provided with toys.

This was part of the Grace Family church’s missions and justice outreach project to assist the underprivileged, as espoused in Matthew 25, verses 40-46, where Christians are called upon to be the hands and feet of the Lord in serving humanity in practical and meaningful ways.

Last year’s project was at the Durban beachfront in the Addington area.

A big thank you to all concerned, especially the donors, volunteers, pastoral and other staff, as well as the Denis Hurley Centre for the venue and logistics, and Food For Life for the welcome meals they provided.

Hard times may have befallen many people, but the benevolence of the above-mentioned Good Samaritans is commendable.

This is a worthy humanitarian gesture in the spirit of ubuntu that people with means and resources ought to emulate by providing a helping hand, where and when possible, to the less fortunate. As the scripture (also Matthew 25) says, any good deed done to mankind is indeed a good deed done to God. Similarly, any good deed withheld from mankind is one withheld from God.

Lastly, the sterling work of Gift of the Givers is quite astounding. Organisations like this must keep up the excellent work in the name of God and humanity.
