WHO reacts to apparent faith healing of doctor in Cameroon
JOHANNESBURG: The World Health Organization (WHO) has spoken out after a Cameroonian doctor, Kameni Pierre, claimed he was healed of Covid-19 by Nigerian pastor TBJoshua through the church channel, Emmanuel Television.
The Daily Post reported that Pierre, a gynaecologist and obstetrician, shared a video on the faith television channel and other social media of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in which he stated that he had been suffering from the virus and was in isolation in hospital when he called in via video to receive prayer from Joshua.
He showed his Covid-19 positive medical report on screen and while receiving prayer from Joshua, he allegedly “vomited up” the disease. It is said that after a few days, Pierre showed another medical report which revealed that he was Covid19 negative.
During the WHO’s daily press briefing on Covid-19, its directorgeneral Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, pictured, executive director of health emergencies Dr Michael Ryan and other officials of the health “Certainly, spiritual leadership is very important in a time like this.”
Tedros said faith and science should work hand in hand.
“We know many religious leaders who would really advise their followers to follow their faith and at the same time use science,” he said.
“The two do not contradict; they go together. We will call on all religious leaders to be in this fight and save lives.”
