- Billy Suter

GEORGE Calombaris, globally famous as one of the judges of the popular TV show MasterChef Australia, is heading for Durban to be a guest at the Good Food & Wine Show next month

The event, at the Durban Exhibition Centre in Walnut Road from October 28 to 30, will also feature local celebrity chefs Siba Mtongana, Jenny Morris, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony and J’Something.

Calombaris – who will appear in the eighth season of MasterChef Australia on M-Net from October 10 – is looking forward to meeting local fans and creating good food.

“I am thrilled to be coming to Durban. There are going to be a few little surprises during the demonstrations and I am going to ‘play’ with people’s senses,” he said.

“It’s also an opportunity for people to meet me and get a good idea of who I am, and why food has played such a major part in my life.”

One of Australia’s top chefs, Calombaris’s style of cuisine has earned him much respect from culinary aficionados at home and abroad.

His Greek heritage is his trademark. With many accolades to his name and a string of restaurants, Calombaris is also known for his cook books and entrepreneurial skills.

The theme of this year’s show is “Fresh” and, for the first time in the Durban show’s history, curator, Hannerie Visser, has been appointed to oversee installations that excite all the senses and enable visitors to interact.

This year’s show will be divided into zones: wellness, lifestyle, wine, market and street food, beer and alcohol, gourmet, baking and an area for children.

Also for the first time in Durban, entry to the celebrity chefs’ theatre and other theatres (including a new wine theatre) will be included in the ticket price.

Tickets are available from Computicket.
