Teen’s shooting probed
THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Hout Bay during a protest by members of the community, it said yesterday.
Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the shooting happened on Tuesday and was captured in video footage that had been circulating on social media.
“The shooting was not reported to the Ipid, as required by the Ipid Act. If no valid reasons are advanced for not reporting it, additional charges will be added,” Dlamini said. “A case of attempted murder is being investigated. No arrest has been made. The investigation continues.”
According to reports, the boy had been shot a number of times, including in the mouth.
Unrest continued yesterday as residents of Hangberg in Hout Bay protested over the West Coast rock lobster fishing rights allocation process and the lack of service in the area. Police battled to contain the protests, firing stun grenades, rubber bullets and tear gas.–
