Cops swoop on KZN’s most wanted
FIVE of KwaZulu-Natal’s most wanted criminals have been arrested.
Officers swooped on the men – aged between 22 and 29 – near Dundee on Sunday, and yesterday.
Acting provincial police commissioner Major-General Bheki Langa said in a statement that the men were linked to a number of murders, armed robberies, hijackings and rapes.
“These dangerous criminals were cornered while celebrating in the Helpmekaar area,” Langa said. “We will also establish from our investigations if they are wanted for other crimes in the province.”
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the men were arrested after officers from King Cetshwayo’s Crime Intelligence unit, assisted by the Durban Special Task Force, conducted an intelligence-driven operation.
“They were acting on verified intelligence with regards to suspects wanted for serious crimes in the province,” she said.
She added that the men were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“Police also seized a vehicle suspected to be stolen,” Gwala said.
The men have initially been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen.
Gwala said they would also be charged in connection with cases in KwaMbonambi, Empangeni, Ntambanana and Madadeni. – Mercury Reporter
