Long term waste disposal strategy

The New Age (Free State) - - KWAZULU-NATAL NEWS - TNA REPORTER

FOR the first time, the Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa’s Landfill and Waste Treatment Interest Group will host a conference on a working landfill site.

The Landfill 2017 conference at the Buffelsdraai Regional Landfill in Verulam on October 18 will focus on the institute’s commitment to capacity building and technology transfer in the implementation of waste treatment and disposal.

The attendees will include decision and policy makers from the government, the private sector, prospective users, academics, and representatives of national organisations working with landfill and alternative waste treatment.

The keynote address will be delivered by Kelvin Legge while Mpendulo Ginindza will outline the implication of the new waste legislation on the relationship of the waste generators, transporters and managers. A paper on developing long term municipal waste disposal strategies will be presented by Kobus Otto and John Clements.

A case study, Housing over a giant landfill site as an end use – really? Crazy? by Richard Emery is expected to draw much debate. – 701198
