‘Matjhabeng will have clean audit’
NEWLY appointed Matjhabeng local municipal manager Thabiso Tsoaeli said his immediate goal was to obtain a clean audit for the authority.
He said he also wanted to see employees working in synergy towards his common goals and he was not a man to make empty promises.
Tsoaeli, formerly the CFO of the same municipality, said he believed in the expression, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
“I don’t like making empty promises and later in the end fail to deliver them. I believe in saying less and doing more. I want to hit the ground running and make an impact. I know is not going to be easy but I have a great team and enough faith in the leadership of the municipality,” he said.
Tsoaeli said he had a name and a reputation to protect.
“Letting the council and the community down is not an option.”
He said he was a team player and that who why team synergies were important.
“I am a team player who believes that excellence can only be achieved when a group of individuals work with synergy towards a common goal. Greater heights will be achieved based on teamwork,” he said. “Of course there are basic things which need immediate attention. We have drafted a contingency programme to address the refuse collection backlog in all of our units. The aging fleet is hindering the smooth progress of this plan.”
Tsoaeli said the municipality had advertised a tender for the appointment of a contractor to assist with sewage spillages in Stateway and around Matjhabeng.
“There are other advertisements as well for resealing of roads, replacing high mast lights and repairing of leakages.
“These are my medium term goals which should impact positively on service delivery,” he said.
Tsoaeli served at Dihlabeng local municipality as the municipal manager from February 2010 to April 2014.
He joined Matjhabeng in May 2014 and in that financial year the municipality had 20 qualification paragraphs, which included the major section that led to disclaimer opinion.
From May, after his appointment as CFO, he implemented internal controls and the qualification decreased to 12 paragraphs.
Matjhabeng executive mayor Nkosinjani Speelman said Tsoaeli was the ideal person to take over as municipal manager.
“I believe he is the right person to drive Matjhabeng to the desired destination,” he said.
