Only Motlanthe can save us and the ANC now
THE analysis by Orapeleng Matshediso titled “Oliver Tambo, servant of the people, an oasis of unity”, warrants a response.
Our struggle icons, like OR Tambo, Nelson Mandela, Albert Luthuli, Ahmed Kathrada and many others, bequeathed to us a democracy that was to be protected and cherished.
Sadly leaders have desecrated the legacies of our heroes. Former president Kgalema Motlanthe is the only ANC politician who can lead the ANC to a resounding victory in 2019.
Without him the ANCwill be heading for a humiliating defeat. Motlanthe has the intellectual prowess, long time strategic vision, and grassroot support to forge the ANC into an instrument for change.
The ANC is a party of hero and zeroes, and the number of heroes is one. The ANC is seeing civil war gaining momentum.
The national character of the ANC, as well as its dedication to constitutional democracy, has changed. It is a pale shadow of its former self.
We are at a political watershed and are urgently in need of change that will remake our world.
Our crop of leaders seem so painfully and embarrassingly short of innovative strategies.
Motlanthe has crusading zeal and an intellectual mandate to build a new South Africa.
Motlanthe is a political realist and not an ideologue. He is the only politician who can win over wavering votes. He could easily win 65% to 70% of the votes in a free and fair election.
There is a feeling within the corridors of power that the ANC will implode into oblivion in 2019. As the ANC disintegrates, hubris and hatred are waiting to destroy the ANC and the legacies of our departed stalwarts.
It was DaShanne Stokes who said: “Blind party loyalty will be our downfall. We must follow truth wherever it leads.”
For many of us who supported the ANC for more than 25 years, the South Africa we fought and cherished has disappeared. A national sense of belonging has given way to distrust. It may be time to declare “adios ANC”. Farouk Araie
